Marc Guehi:  Leaving Chelsea for C/Place was tough decision

Marc Guehi has opened up about how tough a decision it was to leave boyhood club Chelsea for Crystal Palace.

The Eagles signed Guehi for £18million in the summer transfer window after he impressed for Swansea on loan from the Blues last season.

The 21-year-old told Sky Sports: ‘I’ve grown up at Chelsea, I’ve been there since the age of seven, gone through the ranks, gone through the youth team.

‘So many people helped me get to this point, it was very much a family orientated place that I was made to feel part of so to leave there was a very, very tough decision.

‘But I am grateful for the opportunity that Palace presented me. To be a Palace player now is fantastic and to be playing in the Premier League with them is even better so I’m very grateful.’

Palace are yet to achieve a first win under new manager Patrick Vieira but earned a creditable draw against West Ham before the international break.

Guehi has started all four games for his new side this season and is slotting in alongside fellow newcomer Joachim Andersen.

He has also been named England Under-21 captain for their upcoming European qualifying campaign, starting with a game against Kosovo on Tuesday night.

‘Marc will lead the squad for the whole campaign,’ Lee Carsley, the team’s new manager, said.

‘I’ve known him for two or three years and straight way I was impressed by how mature he is, the way he talks about the game, the way he influences players off the pitch.

‘With international football we get a lot of downtime off the pitch, with very little time training. The example he sets off the pitch as well as on it made it an easy choice.’
