Mass brawl breaks out in boxing event

Dozens of punches were thrown with security unable to control the violence at Frank Warren’s night of boxing at the Brentwood Centre in United Kingdom.

Spectators wrestled over seats and into the metal barriers with fans heard screaming to mar the entertainment in the ring.

Shocking footage showed chaotic scenes in the crowd during Johnny Garton and Gary Corcoran’s British title fight.

The night’s MC could be heard pleading with fans to stop fighting: “You came here to watch boxing, sit down!”

Those engaging in violence missed a thrilling fight in the ring, as Garton stopped Corcoran in the 11th round to pick up the vacant British welterweight title.

A heavier police presence was then seen throughout the remainder of the evening.

A spokeswoman for Essex Police said: “Officers acted swiftly and bravely after the outbreak of a fight between some members of the crowd at last night’s event in the Brentwood Centre.

“This behaviour will not be tolerated and we are working with the organisers and security to determine who was involved.

“The security of private events are the responsibility of the venue and organisers.

“Prior to the event, we met with the organisers, whose security arrangements appeared to be sufficient.

“We had officers in the area to assist in the event of any disorder and we dealt with what happened last night quickly – we are continuing our enquiries into who was involved.

“Anyone with information or further footage of the fight is asked to contact us on 101, or Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111”
