McGregor charged for dangerous driving in Ireland

UFC  star McGregor has been arrested for alleged dangerous driving with his £140,000 Bentley temporarily seized, according to reports in Ireland.

The UFC fighter was apprehended by authorities in Dublin, Ireland, while behind the wheel of his Bentley Continental GT, according to the Irish Independent. The local Gardai took notice when he was driving between Lucan and Palmerstown in the western part of the city, the report adds.

His car was taken away but later returned to him. It is understood he has been charged with dangerous driving.

A Gardai spokesman confirmed that a man was arrested in relation to the incident, saying: “Gardaí arrested a man aged in his 30s in relation to an incident of dangerous driving in the Palmerstown area  evening, Tuesday of  22nd March 2022. The man was taken to Lucan Garda Station where he was later charged. He has been released pending an appearance before Blanchardstown District Court at a later date.”

“He passed the drug and alcohol tests taken at the station.”

McGregor is waiting for a widely anticipated return to the UFC after sustaining a leg break in July. Dustin Poirier defeated the Irishman for a second time last year, while rendering him out of action.

McGregor has been focusing his attention on strength training, bulking up considerably ahead of his next bout – though it’s unclear who it will be against.

UFC president Dana White told talkSPORT last week that they are hopeful of an autumn return for McGregor. He told talkSPORT: “I’m not worried about [finding McGregor an opponent] because, first of all, Conor is not even fighting right now.

“He’s not back until the fall [autumn] – if everything goes right. So a lot of the match-ups will play out this summer and whoever wins or loses, when Conor is cleared by a doctor and ready to go, we’ll figure out who’s next.”
