McNealy is the world’s richest golfer and heir to £800m fortune

Maverick McNealy may not be that well known to many, but he is believed to be the world’s richest golfer.

McNealy is ranked No. 128 in the golf world rankings but the 25-year-old beats the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy when it comes to money in the bank

He is yet to make the cut in three majors that he has played and does not have a win to his name on the PGA Tour.

Though what he does have is money in the bank, largely thanks to his father businessman Scott McNealy.

Maverick is the heir to an astonishing £800m fortune with golfing legend Woods believed to be worth around £700m.

Scott co-founded computer technology company Sun Microsystems, alongside Vinod Khosla, Bill Joy, and Andy Bechtolsheim in 1982.

He stepped aside 11 years ago with the company sold for a staggering £5billion, though Maverick was not being handed an easy ride.

He told Golf Digest “My dad often tells me the most well-funded start-ups always fail, and that a short cash runway lights a fire under your rear that’s hard to emulate.

“I don’t judge my success in golf by how much money I’ve made; I judge it by my effort and commitment.

“My brothers and I never got an allowance, and we were told that once we graduated from college, we’d have one summer to find a job and then we’d be on our own.

“My dad would’ve made me pay rent to live at home after school — I’m not kidding!”

Maverick has made a success of his golf career, earning £1.8m on the course, while he is also in a relationship with LPGA Tour star Danielle Kang.

The two have been dating since 2019 with Kang ranked 5th in the world and having made over £4m in career earnings.
