Memphis Depay nets on debut in Barca’s victory against Girona
New signing Memphis Depay marked his debut with his first goal for Barcelona in their 3-1 pre-season friendly victory against Girona at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
Depay, who joined from Lyon, found the net from the penalty spot after entering the fray as a substitute, with Gerard Pique having also scored a penalty earlier in the game. Striker Rey Manaj continued his impressive pre-season form by scoring again.
Holland international Depay described being a Barcelona player as a ‘dream’ when he was officially unveiled earlier this week.
Girona’s goal was scored by Samu Saiz, from the spot in an eventful encounter.
Cristhian Stuani had an effort saved for Girona early on, but then Pique put Barcelona ahead. Girona goalkeeper Juan Carlos got a hand to the ball but then turned it into the net.

Manaj, who usually plays for the B team, followed on from his hat-trick against Gimnastic de Tarragona, by making it 2-0.
Saiz pulled a goal back from the spot for Girona but a much-changed Barcelona side impressed in the second half, with Miralem Pjanic’s effort striking the crossbar.
Antoine Griezmann won a penalty in the closing stages which Depay converted.
