Messi expresses heartbreak over Copa America postponement

Argentina and Barcelona talisman, Lionel Messi, has opened up on this summer’s Copa America being postponed owing to the coronavirus pandemic which has affected the whole world, revealing that, he was “disappointed” by the postponement.

The 47th edition of the Copa America was scheduled to take place in the summer, but the competition was pushed back by a year by the authorities after the outbreak of the COVID-19 has led to a complete disruption of the sporting calendar.
Colombia and Argentina will remain the hosts of the competition which will see Messi playing in his homeland , and while the striker has expressed disappointment at the way the event has been delayed, he believes that it was the right thing to do.

“Pushing back the Copa América was a huge disappointment, but of course it was to be expected and was the reasonable thing to do. The Copa was going to be a big occasion for me this year, and I was extremely excited to compete in it again. “It hit me hard when I learned it would be postponed, but I completely understood,” he said as quoted by Mirror.

The 32-year-old who has been at the forefront of the success for both club and country, will be expected to once again be at his best when football resumes in the near future.
