Messi pays emotional farewell to ‘Goodman’ Neymar

Lionel Messi has paid tribute to ‘beautiful person’ Neymar as their time playing together at Paris Saint-Germain draws to a close.

The Argentine played the final game of his two-year spell in Paris on Saturday night but was mocked by some fans at the Parc des Princes in a shock 3-2 loss to Clermont.

Messi’s departure had been confirmed ahead of the game and the World Cup winner has been linked with a return to Barcelona or a lucrative transfer to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.

Although 35-year-old Messi helped PSG win back-to-back Ligue 1 titles, he was unable to achieve his holy grail of lifting the Champions League.

Brazilian star Neymar had taken to Instagram to wish Messi the best, while admitting that not everything had lived up to expectations in Paris.

Neymar admitted ‘not everything went to plan’ during Messi’s two seasons in Paris

He wrote: ‘Brother…it didn’t turn out the way we thought it would but we tried everything. It was a pleasure to share two more years with you.

‘Good luck in your new stage and be happy. I like you.’

In response to his friend, Messi wrote on his Instagram: “Thank you Ney!” Beyond everything else, we were able to enjoy playing together and sharing our days.

‘Wish you all the best. In addition to being a crack, you are a beautiful person and that’s what counts in the end. I love you so much, Neymar.

PSG had confirmed parting ways with the World Cup winner ahead of kick-off after coach Christophe Galtier let the cat out of the bag during his press conference.

Al-Hilal, meanwhile, have offered Messi £345m a season to follow Cristiano Ronaldo to the Saudi Pro League.

PSG coach Galtier confirmed in a press conference on Thursday afternoon that the World Cup winner will be leaving the club this summer, with Saudi Arabia being one of his potential destinations.

“Clermont Foot will be Messi’s last game at PSG,” Galtier said. “I had the privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football. This will be Leo’s last game at the Parc des Princes.

Sources close to Al-Hilal insist that the Argentine will sign for the Saudi club on Tuesday.
