Messi’s absence has ripped out Barcelona’s soul – Rummenigge

Former Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said Barcelona are struggling without Lionel Messi.

Bayern thumped Barca on Tuesday night 3-0 at the Nou Camp in their opening Champions League clash.

Rummenigge said: “We played outstandingly and deserved to win. It’s too early to talk about favourites. It only really starts with the knockout phase.

“If you look at the team, how they performed tactically. With Messi, they have ripped out their souls. They face difficult times. It was essential to sell him. The Spanish Liga has scored an own goal with him.

“That is not presentable, that was not a problem. You cannot think about that. The salary is at such dizzying heights.”
