English Championship side, Middlesbrough have confirmed the departure of Nigeria skipper John Obi Mikel after the end of the 2018-2019 season.
The club made the disclosure through their official website that Mikel is among the four players namely Stewart Downing, Dimi Konstantopoulos and Andy Lonergan whose contracts would be renewed.
The central midfielder arrived from Chinese club, Tianjin Teda in January and penned a short-term contract with the Riverside outfit.
He made a total of 19 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal on the final day of the regular season against Rotherham United.

Mikel wore the captain’s armband in the last six matches in the Championship and they enjoyed a good run of results, taking 15 points from a possible 18 but failed to qualify for the playoffs.
