Mikel Obi fails to save Stoke from FA cup whitewash

Former Super Eagles Captain John Obi Mikel marshaled the midfield for Championship side Stoke but failed to save them from defeat by Leicester City  Saturday.

In what could pass for the battle of Eagles the former Chelsea star was in full action for Stoke while visiting Leicester City had ever regular Wilfred Ndidi and intermittent compatriot and teammate Kelechi Iheanacho on parade in the FA Cup clash.

City’s James Justine shot the visitors into the lead in the 34th minute with Marc Albrighton doubling the lead in the 59th minute.

With two goals down Obi and his teammates still believed in their ability to remedy the situation and fought tooth and nail with intent to achieving that, , but it was not to be as the rampaging visitors grabbed two extra goals to complete a 4-0 whitewash thanks to Ayoze Perez and Harvey Banes.

While Obi and Ndidi were in action for the full duration of the match for their respective teams, compatriot Iheanacho saw just eight minutes action after substituting goal scorer Harvey Banes in the 82nd minute.

Captain Obi Mikel who retired from the national team after the Nations Cup in 2019, made 91 appearances for the Super Eagles with six goals to his credit.
