Mikel Obi joins Championship side Middlesbrough

Super Eagles captain, Mikel John Obi joined Championship side Middlesbrough on a short-term deal.
The former Chelsea midfielder arrives at the Riverside Stadium in an effort to help ‘the Smoogies’ gain promotion to the Premier League.

The 31 year-old became a free agent after leaving after leaving China’s Tianjin Teda at the end of the Chinese Super League season in November.
Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis said: “I’m pleased to get him in. He is a man with a lot of experience and quality.
“He has a winning mentality and he wants to be here to be a part of what we are looking to achieve.”
Mikel is famous for his time with Chelsea where he won two Premier League titles, three FA cups and the Champions league in 11 years.
He becomes Middlesbrough’s second signing of the January transfer window after bringing in Huddersfield Town’s Rajiv van La Parra on loan.
Middlesbrough are fifth in the Championship table and are hoping to return to the Premier League since 2017.
