Mikel scores, declares readiness for South Africa

Nigeria captain Mikel Obi was on the losing side with Chinese club Tianjin Teda despite getting on the score sheet.

Tianjin lost 4-2 to Shanghai Senhua on Match day 27 in the Chinese Super League on Sunday at the Tianjin Olympic Center Stadium.

Mikel would have been up against Obafemi Martins who plays for Senhua, but has been out for months due to injury.

Mikel who has been battling fitness issues which ruled him out Super Eagles last three matches equalized for Teda after Giovanni Andres Moreno gave the visitors the lead.

It was Mikel’s first goal in six months which indeed would gladden the heart of Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr ahead of the country’s decisive Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa on November 17.

The last time Mikel found the back of the net was in April against Guangzhou R&F.

The loss leaves them second to last on the 16-team table with three round of matches left.
