Modric back in training and ready for Celta Vigo

There was good news for Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti as Luka Modric rejoined the group and is available to play this Sunday against Celta Vigo.

The Croatian midfielder has recovered from a muscular problem and should be ready to take part in Los Blancos’ return to the Estadio Bernabeu after a year-and-a-half in ‘exile’ at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

After Modric took part in the Real Madrid squad’s second session of the week, it will be up to Ancelotti to make the call on whether to start him against Celta or save him for the Champions League opener away to Inter at the Stadio Meazza.

Whichever way he goes, it’s a good decision to have to make for the Italian, who may also be able to call upon Nacho Fernandez and Toni Kroos, who both did individual work on the grass at Valdebebas on Wednesday as they edge towards a return to full training.

The game on Sunday will definitely be too soon for Ferland Mendy, however, who remains on a personal pre-season programme, and Dani Ceballos, who is yet to recover from the ankle injury he picked up at the Tokyo Olympics.
