Moses, Inter shift attention to Sampdoria after Coppa Italia ouster

 

Former Super Eagles star Victor Moses and his Inter Milan teammates will form part of television spectators of this year Coppa Italia after they failed to overcome Napoli in the semifinals.

The Antonio Conte tutored side played out a 1-1 draw against Napoli on Saturday at the Stadio San Paolo Stadium but failed to progress having lost by a lone gone in the first leg played in February.

The former West Ham and Fenerbahçe loanee saw 18 minutes action against Napoli after stepping in as late substitute for home boy Antonio Candreva in the 72nd minute.

Although visiting Inter shot into the lead as early as the 2nd minute of the match thanks to Christian Eriksen, the celebration however could not last the distance as Belgian international Dries Mertens cancelled it before the end of first half.

Inter’s fight to the finish effort with intent to turn the table proved abortive as Napoli stood their ground cruising into the finals where they will face Juventus on 2-1 aggregate.

With the dream of the Coppa Italia off the shelf, Moses who re-united with former Chelsea coach Antonio Conte in January this year, will now focus on ending the Seria A season which like other leagues was put on hold by the rampaging effect of Coronavirus.

Inter currently occupy the third position on the Serie A log with 54 points in 25 matches prior to the Covid-19 lockdown and will re-open their campaign against Sampdoria on June 21.

Napoli and Juventus will slug it out in Wednesday’s final at Stadio Olimpico. Juve played out a 0-0 draw against AC Milan on Friday in a tie that saw Portuguese international and Juve talisman missing a penalty.
