Mourinho aims dig at Rudiger after Chelsea beat Tottenham

Jose Mourinho aimed a dig at Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger for his role in Son Heung-min’s sending off, mockingly claiming the centre-back will have ‘broken ribs’ after he fell to the floor in agony after his Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son kicked out.

The Portuguese manager, who used to coach Chelsea, branded the red card a ‘strange’ decision, although he accepted it had little bearing on his side’s 2-0 defeat to his former outfit.

Willian’s double put Frank Lampard’s team in control but the game was marred by alleged racism directed at Rudiger in the second half.

‘If he does nothing and the referee immediately gives a yellow card to Rudiger then he won’t have a reaction,’ he said.

‘But if he doesn’t then you can have this sort of emotional reaction. which the referee and VAR has to analyse.

‘For me football is football, the Premier League will be English football and for me that red card is a strange one.

‘But I don’t want to focus on that because my team lost and I have to be complimentary to my opponents because they had the better handle on the game.’

He continued: ‘I think in the first half they were the best team but it is one thing is to arrive at half-time losing 1-0 and another to be losing 2-0. We have to blame ourselves for both goals. We didn’t defend a short corner and the second is a penalty.

‘The second half was much better and then we had one player less so it was very difficult. In spite of that we had a reaction, in spite of that we had pride, in spite of that we searched for a goal which could change the state of the game. But it was not possible.

‘I hope Rudiger will recover from broken ribs because he will have broken ribs for sure.’

He did, however, express his disappointment that Rudiger was racially abused later in the match.

‘I saw nothing, I saw the referee follow the protocol, he came to Andre Marriner (fourth official), he came to me and Frank Lampard and told us what was happening.

‘The protocol was followed and we are one of the clubs..every club is together on this situation and of course we are disappointed.’
