Mourinho rules out Ibrahimovic return

Jose Mourinho has ruled out a return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester United, but has also hinted that the Swede could come on loan during the close of the MLS season.

The return of Ibrahimovic to Old Trafford is being mooted as a cover for Romelu Lukaku who has been struggling in front of goal.

The Swede left United in March to join LA Galaxy after failing to recover from a serious knee injury sustained in 2017.

He has however rediscovered his form in the MLS, scoring 22 goals in 26 games since arriving in California.

However, when asked whether he would consider a move for Ibrahimovic, Mourinho said: “No. No.”

Lukaku has failed to find the net in his last eight games for United, with some suggesting that he could do with a spell out of Mourinho’s side.

“Well against Juventus to give him a break, I don’t think Carrick can play as a striker,” Mourinho said.

“So against Juventus or we play with the players that we did or we decide to give a rest to Lukaku, then Rashford, who plays as a winger?
