Mourinho throws Roma future into doubt after loss in Europa League

José Mourinho says he will remain at Roma at least ‘until Monday’ and insists his players’ deserve more.’

The Special One is under contract at the Stadio Olimpico until June 2024, but his future in the capital has been a huge matter of debate over the last few months.

During his post-match interview with DAZN, Mou said he would go on holiday on Monday and asked whether he would stay at the club long-term, he replied: “Yes, until Monday for sure.”

The Portuguese coach was asked more questions about his future during a post-match press conference, but once again he failed to commit his future to the club, sending clear messages to owners.

“I want to remain, but my players deserve more,” he said.

“And I too deserve more. I want to fight for more. I want to fight for more. I am a little tired of being a coach, communications chief, the face that says we were robbed. I am a little tired of being so much.

“I want to remain with the conditions to give more. Next season, we are not in the Champions League and paradoxically that is good news, because we are not yet a squad for the Champions League,” Mourinho continued.

“We must win on Sunday to be in the Europa League, we want to get back into European competition. I hope the referee can remain in the Champions League and only do the same rubbish he did today in the Champions League and leave us alone in the Europa League.”

Roma’s loss on penalties against Sevilla in the Europa League Final means the Giallorossi won’t play in the Champions League next season.

They face Spezia at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday in the last Serie A game of the campaign but need to win to be 100% sure of a Europa League placement, being only one point above seventh-placed Juventus.
