Moussa Djenepo pleased with performance in draw against Chelsea

Moussa Djenepo was happy to be part of Southampton’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Saints were the first opposition team to score against the Blues since the inception of Thomas Tuchel as manager, taking the lead through a wonderful Takumi Minamino strike in the first half.

The hosts were pegged back by a Mason Mount penalty midway through the second period, but Djenepo was especially pleased with the work rate of his fellow teammates, who all had to dig deep to keep free-flowing Chelsea at bay.

Speaking as one of Saints’ standout performers on the day, the Malian said: “It’s a good result for us because after the past few games, we knew that we needed it. To fight to get points today and even just the one point is not bad for us.

“I am happy with my game, I know I am young and need to learn more; from my teammates and the manager. I keep working hard always, to do the best for my team. I feel good, I work hard to come back [from injury]. To always give my best is what I aim for.

“Now we forget today’s game, because we need to focus on the next. We will always continue to work to get points in these next games.”
