Musa forgives ref for disallowed goals

Super Eagles’ Ahmed Musa has criticised the criteria used in the selection of the BBC African Player of the Year nominees and has termed it all politics.

No Nigerian player was deemed good enough to make the cut of the five players nominated for the award which included Sadio Mane and Mohammed Sallah both of Liverpool of England.

Nigeria qualify for AFCON 2019

Musa while reacting to the BBC snub of Nigerian players disclosed that he was unhappy at the list of players nominated whom he reckoned didn’t do much to be picked ahead of Nigerian players based on the World Cup performance.

“I saw the list and I felt unhappy because when I saw those in the list I believe they were not up to our standards at the World Cup,” Musa told journalists.

“It is all politics and I don’t have to bother myself thinking about it. I am confident that we have some young players coming up in the Nigerian team and if they are consistent, they will make it in the near future.”

The Al Nasr of Saudi Arabia striker also stressed that he has no problems with the two goals incorrectly ruled out as offside against South Africa in as much as the Eagles qualified for the AFCON for the first time since 2013.

He pointed out that humans are prone to error and that it was no big deal what the referee did.
