My Middlesbrough future not an issue–Mikel

 

Nigeria midfielder, John Mikel Obi has refused to be dragged into any discussion surrounding his contract with Middlesbrough which is set to expire at the end of the season.

Instead he has revealed that his priority is to see the English Championship end the season on a positive note with four matches left to play.

Talks about the player’s future emerged at the weekend after he captained Middlesbrough to a 1-0 victory against Hull City to brighten their chances of securing the Playoff ticket.

“I don’t know, I haven’t thought about anything – four games to go, that’s all I’m thinking about,” he told the club’s website.

Having remained silent on his future, Mikel has decided to shft attention to their next league match against Stoke City on Friday, and has charged his teammates to make sure they take their chances.

“We are creating lots of chances, if we take them we’ll win two or three nil every game. There are nerves but we are professionals and we have to deal with it.”

“They have to continue. As an experienced player I always talk to them on the pitch.

He further added that he would continue to talk to the attackers, Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher to encourage the pair to continue to give their best

“That’s exactly what they need. You see Fletch scoring (at Bolton) and (against Hull) Britt got the winner.

Despite playing an inspirational role, Mikel is yet to score for the Teesiders.
