Moses Simon: Nantes waiting for Levante to open sale talks

Moses Simon has insisted that Levante will have the final say on his time with Nantes.

Nigeria international winger enjoyed a terrific campaign at Stade de la Beaujoire, amassing nine goals and eight assists.

In a poll conducted by the club’s fans, Simon was named as Nantes’ best player for the 2019-20 season. He won 40 percent of the total 3,500 votes recorded.

The 24-year-old was Nantes’ highest goalscorer for the season, validating the club’s decision to sign him on loan from La Liga club Levante last summer.

Reports have claimed Nantes are set to trigger an option to sign Simon permanently after his loan expires. But Simon says that while the club wants him to stay, ultimately his future rests in the hands of Levante.

Asked by Tribalfootball.com if anyone from Nantes had spoken to him about staying next season, Simon replied: “Yes they did. Nantes actually wants me to remain at the club.

“But don’t forget that I’m on loan from my parent club (Levante) and they have the final say on this matter.”

Reflecting on his excellent season in France, Simon believes his game is suited to Ligue 1 football.

“Honestly, it was a great experience for me,” he added. “I can say it has been a great season for me in France having scored some goals and had some assists too. I scored some crucial goals for me team.

“I think I adjusted quickly to French football and this helped me to settle down very well as a professional player.

“Of course French football suits my game since I have splendid performances. Winning man of the match award in 10 games and winning the player of the month once in the club makes me feel good.

“For me to have played as a point man in some games tells you that French football suits my style of play. I think hard-work and God’s favour made my football to click in France.”

When asked to compare Ligue 1 and La Liga, Simon continued: “I think both leagues are very good, highly competitive and very exciting to play.

“La Liga is more technical, while Lique 1 is more physical. That is the main difference aside from the language too. For me, it is a big honour to have played in both leagues.”

The Canaries finished 13th on the table, with the season ended prematurely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It was the club’s first season under manager Christian Gourcuff, and Simon was full of praise for a Frenchman.

“He is a very nice man, a good coach,” he continued. “He encourages me a lot. He gave me playing time, tells me what to do to improve my game.

“He communicates with me as a father speaks to his son. He contacts me often like a father and son relationship. Every player would love to play under such a coach.”
