Napoli boss Spalletti highlights Victor Osimhen’s attacking qualities

.Says. 'he can play in any team'

Luciano Spalletti has assured Victor Osimhen ‘will have an important future, no matter what team he plays in even as he remarked that he cannot beat Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli points record, and ‘won’t comment’ on President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The Partenopei had been 2-0 up with an Osimhen brace, but Lewis Ferguson and Lorenzo De Silvestri clawed it back to 2-2 for Bologna and only the offside flag prevented the hosts turning it around completely.

“When the others have the ball and the initiative, it becomes difficult, especially for the characteristics of my team. I wanted us to play it more cleanly, yet we still created the chances to kill the game off and didn’t take them,” Spalletti told DAZN.

“Bologna are well-organised, play good football and you could see they were in great shape.”

Kvicha Kvaratskhelia was getting a lot of advice from the touchline this afternoon at the Stadio Dall’Ara, who where does the Georgian still need to improve his game?

“The more I see him, the more I am convinced he’s extraordinarily talented, but when the other team use a high press, we need everyone to help out and give them more passing options. Kvara can keep the ball at his feet and create spaces to free up others.”

Osimhen bagged a brace today and now has 25 Serie A goals for the season, surely enough to lock down the Capocannoniere title, but Spalletti’s comments seem to raise a few questions on the Nigerian’s future at the Stadio Maradona.

“When players start working in a certain way, you identify their characteristics and find paths to give them service. Osimhen is good in open spaces, in the air, with the ball passed to his feet. He will have an important future, no matter what team he plays in, and is above all a good lad too. His teammates love him, he helps them out and resolves situations rather than complains.

“He will become even more of a top player in future.”

As for Spalletti’s future, that seems to be decided, with the coach dropping numerous hints that he is leaving at the end of the season.

“Many things remain. In order to build a campaign the way we did, you need all the components to participate. Even if the sentiment of the city and the fans is the thing that makes the difference in Naples, it motivates, it lifts you up when you are a little depressed. Just go out there and meet the people, you will realise it.”

He still got a tattoo on the inside of his forearm to remember Napoli and the club’s third Scudetto forever.

“It was an itch I felt, I looked down and saw this. I am happy to have put it on the surface of my skin as well as under it. I might even get another one cover the whole arm, as there are other things to remember too.”

President De Laurentiis has not yet confirmed Spalletti’s exit, but he said yesterday that being at Napoli ought to be ‘a privilege, not an obligation.’

“I won’t comment on the President’s words. I am mentally organised in celebrating with the fans and my players, who deserve all the best in the world. I am within these celebrations and this is why it was still a great performance today.”
