Napoli suspend non-playing staff

Napoli have become the first Serie A club to temporarily lay off non-playing staff as a result of the coronavirus crisis.

Sport Mediaset writes 30 Napoli employees, some of whom have been working remotely, will not be paid for two months.

Unlike in countries such as Denmark and the UK, the Italian government has yet to announce a furlough scheme covering the wages of workers who cannot be utilised due to the pandemic.

The Partenopei also still have to address the issue of first-team salaries, with Lega Serie A permitting clubs to cut up to 1/3 of players’ monthly earnings.

However, that is entangled by President Aurelio De Laurentiis and his continued vow to dock more than €2m from his squad members following their show of mutiny in November.
