Nations Cup: Sudan will come to the party prepared-Rohr

 

While analysts and fans alike have been tipping the match against Pharaohs of Egypt as the expected toughest game for the Super Eagles, the team’s coach Gernot Rohr has said none of the opponents will be a tea party.

Rohr who led the Eagles to a third place finish at the last nations cup in Egypt cited the Sudanese side otherwise called  the Falcons of Jediane as another opponent that should not be treated with kid gloves.  Coach of the side according to him has not only been tested but is a coach he knows personally and his ability to deliver.

“Sudan is trained by a French technician [Hubert Velud] whom I know well. He did a great job. So all the matches will be difficult,” he told Cafonline.

He howevever agreed that opening the group stage with a clash against Egypt will be a handful.

The match between Nigeria and Egypt is probably the most uncertain. “We have a difficult group with Egypt that we have to face from the start on January 11 in Garoua,” said Gernot Rohr after the draw ceremony on August 17 in Yaounde.

Host of the last nations Cup Egypt were sent packing in the round of 16 while Nigeria progressed and ended up in the third place with Algeria clinching the title after beating Senegal by a lone goal.

Since the draw which pitched Nigeria against Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau most fans asked to access the group by Sportinglife.ng  cited the tie against Egypt as the major decider, while expecting Eagles to have a jolly ride against the two remaining opponents, a submission which Rohr differs from insisting that every team that qualified for the Nations cup came with intent to win and as such likely to  fight to  the finish. The Next nations cup will take place from January 9 to February 6, 2022

Garoua, capital of the North region in Cameroon, will host the group matches of the four teams. The Roumdé-Adjia stadium, with a capacity of 30,000 seats, was renovated for the occasion.

The enclosure regularly hosts the matches of Coton Sport de Garoua in the national league and in CAF interclub competitions.

After Egypt, Nigeria will face Sudan on January 15 and Guinea-Bissau on January 19, 2022 in Garoua.
