Ndidi out of Bafana tie after bagging second yellow card

Leicester City defensive midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi has been ruled out of the Nigeria’s next 2019 AFCON qualifier against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa next month.

Ndidi who has become a super regular in the coach Gernot Rohr led side became ineligible for the away game next month after picking up his second yellow card in the dying minute of Wednesday’s game in Sfax which Nigeria beat Libya 3-2.

The needless caution Ndidi received from Botswana referee Joshua Bondo after engaging a Libyan player in a touchline altercation meant that coach Rohr will have to start looking for a capable replacement for one of his most reliable players.

William Troost-Ekong, another Nigerian player who was on a yellow card before the match against Libya was however lucky to have avoided a one-match ban after finishing the match without getting a second booking.

The Foxes number 25 picked up his first booking in the 25th minute of last Saturday’s 4-0 win before the Udinese man had his name taken six minutes from time.

The two players have an exemplary disciplinary record for the senior national team, with Ndidi shown only one yellow card since he made his international debut and Troost-Ekong booked in only two matches.
