Wilfred Ndidi

The Leicester of England midfielder who is recovering from a hamstring injury has been training alone since reporting for international duty on Tuesday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom capital.

“He is being watched closely by the team doctors who have been updating the head coach on his recovery rate. Although the report is positive, the coach is not ready to take chances because he wants him to be fully fit for the World Cup proper,” an official who declined to have his name mentioned told Sportinglife.ng.

Owing to his relevance in the team, Ndidi may also miss the England friendly on June 2 at the Wembley Stadium.

He should however be available for selection when Nigeria face Czech Republic in their last friendly on June 6 in Austria.

The official further said Ndidi will commence full training in a couple of days.

“He is responding well in training and the coach is delighted,” he concluded.

The team will leave for Rivers State on Saturday for the friendly.
