New Season: NFF summons Referees to MKO Abiola Stadium

With about two weeks to the much awaited resumption of the Nigerian League, the NFF has directed Referees to show face at the Abuja stadium for fitness test

The football house in an information dished out from its headquarters in Abuja Thursday said “Ahead of the kickoff of the new football season there will be a physical fitness test for FIFA referees from Wednesday 4th to Thursday 5th November, 2020 at the main bowl of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja”

The Nigerian league has been in limbo since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic which seized not just sporting activities across the globe but also put business and social activities in the cooler.  Although there have been gradual opening of events, fans often dubbed as the 12th player of any football match, have continued to be locked out for now.

After uncertainties over resumption date November 15 was eventually approved for the kickoff

The 2019-20 NPFL was scrapped in August, after the league had initially been suspended in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The NFF endorsed the new season date proposal at the end of its Executive Committee meeting held via video conference held recently. The Glass House however reminded the league management and clubs alike of the need to comply with all provisions of the Presidential Task Force of Covid-19.

While die-hard lovers of the local league are looking forward to the return of action, they will however continue to monitor events from a distance as there are no immediate approvals for fans to storm the match venues as usual to avoid having a second wave of the dreaded pandemic.
