Newcastle revive interest in Malick

Newcastle United will look to sign 22-year-old German defender Malick Thiaw from Serie A club AC Milan in the summer transfer window.

Malick Thiaw has blown hot and cold since joining AC Milan from FC Schalke 04 in August 2022. A native of Dusseldorf, he passed through the academies at TV Kalkum-Wittlaer, Fortuna Dusseldorf, Bayer Leverkusen, and Borussia Monchengladbach before landing at Schalke in 2015.

The 22-year-old spent seven years at Schalke and was one of the German club’s best performers before AC Milan came calling. Thiaw has turned out 54 times thus far for the Rossoneri, chipping in with one assist. While the youngster has been in and out of the starting lineup, his stock in the market remains high.

Newcastle United’s interest in Malick Thiaw is understandable. The Magpies are keen on signing another centre-back in the summer transfer window despite sealing a Bosman move for Lloyd Kelly. That stance is understandable, considering Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are long-term absentees for the Tyneside outfit.

Several candidates, including Federico Gatti, have thus emerged on Newcastle United’s radar, with Thiaw also a viable target. The Magpies have now revived their move for the 22-year-old AC Milan defender and might launch the offensive to sign him from the Serie A club in the summer transfer window.

It will be interesting to see if a summer move for Thiaw sees the light of day after AC Milan priced Newcastle United out of a deal last summer. The story is in its early stages, and the Magpies have a lot of ground to make in the coming weeks.
