Newcastle urged to sign £60m-rated James Maddison

Former Liverpool and England midfielder Danny Murphy believes James Maddison would be a brilliant signing for Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe’s men were strongly linked with a move for Maddison over the summer. Indeed, the Daily Mail stated that the Magpies had two offers knocked back to secure the Leicester playmaker’s services.

Signing an attacking midfielder was very high on the list of needs for Howe, who strengthened his defence and forward line during the last window.

And now fresh rumours suggest that a January swoop for Maddison could now be on the cards.

The Chronicle’s Aaron Stokes claims Newcastle are more likely to push for the £60million-rated Maddison over his Foxes teamamate Youri Tielemans.

And Murphy thinks that Maddison working under Howe would be a great combination.

Murphy told talkSPORT: “He’s a terrific player. He gives them [Newcastle] something they haven’t got. He’s one of the most creative players in the Premier League.

“He makes things happen, he’s courageous on the ball. He’s got an eye for a pass and plays free.

“I like Maddison because he plays free. He never hides away, he’s happy making mistakes to try and make things happen.”
