Newcastle’s Callum Wilson ruled out of next three matches
Newcastle United might be without star man Callum Wilson until after the October international break due to injury.
Wilson tweaked his quad muscle against Southampton a fortnight ago but carried on and scored before being substituted in the 69th minute.
The Magpies drew that game 2-2 after Saints captain James Ward-Prowse scored a penalty deep into stoppage time.
His injury is a big blow for Steve Bruce, who is under pressure with Newcastle sitting 19th in the league without a win.
If his initial prognosis is correct, Wilson could miss matches against Wolves, Leeds United and Watford, according to The Athletic.
The Toon would fancy their chances in these fixtures, with the Watford encounter holding great significance in their fight for survival.
However, the 29-year-old’s injury has certainly hindered their chances of picking up some desperately needed points from these games.
Last season Wilson scored 12 goals in 26 league matches after making the move from Bournemouth and already has two in three this term.
He missed Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Manchester United as Bruce’s men were brushed aside as Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace on his second debut for the club.
And former Newcastle defender Ryan Taylor has criticised Bruce for his body language on the sideline during the loss
“I watch the body language of managers and Steve Bruce doesn’t fill me with confidence when I watch him on the sidelines which I sad because Steve’s a great guy but I just feel like he’s fighting a battle he can’t win,” Taylor told Sky Sports.

“I watched his interview after the game. It completely wasn’t about the game, it was about did he or did he not go on holiday during the international break and he lost it again with the journalist.
“There is a lot of unrest at Newcastle at the minute but there’s a lot of games to be played.
“They do look frail,” he added when questioned about Newcastle’s defence.
