NFF blast Rohr for instigating players over pay protest

Chieftains of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are miffed over the manner in which Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr exposed the country to public ridicule at a pre-match press conference held in Alexandria on Tuesday.

Sportinglife.ng gathered from one of the NFF board members that Rohr should have kept quiet at the press conference when he was asked why his players (most times two of them) didn’t accompany him to the meeting than to instigate a protest that never happened.

Rohr told the media on Tuesday that his players didn’t accompany him to the press conference because they were holding a meeting to discuss pressing issues affecting the team.

And the media went to town with Rohr’s comments that the players shunned the press conference to press home their demands for their allowances and bonuses which have not been paid.

Ahmed Musa failed to show up for Tuesday’s pre-match conference ahead of the Guinea match, but the Al-Nassr player preferred to stay back with his colleagues for a ‘crucial’ player’s meeting at the Helnan Palestine Hotel.

“The players showed solidarity and had to stay back for an important meeting,” said coach Rohr when quizzed by the media.

NFF chieftains fingered that Rohr may have taken the decision to let out what the players were doing to the media since he would be getting double of whatever the players are paid.
