NFF intervenes in Nwakali’s visa issue

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has assured that Nigeria international, Kelechi Nwakali would return to Portugal having intervened in his visa issue.

The 20-year-old has been stranded in Nigeria since taking part in the 2020 Olympic qualifier with the U-23 National Team against Libya at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on March 25.

“The federation has been working hard to get his visa sorted as quickly as possible, but it’s taken longer than expected,” NFF’s director of communications Ademola Olajire told BBC Sport.

“We hope it will come out after the Easter break to enable Nwakali return to Portugal.”

Nwakali has not been able to secure his work permit since the reserve team of FC Porto reserve team on a single- from Arsenal on loan this season.

As a result of the visa delay, Nwakal has missed the club’s last four matches.

He has 16 appearances this season for Porto who play in the second tier of Portuguese football league.

He moved to Arsenal in August 2016 after the 2015 FIFIA under-17 World Cup where he won the Golden boot.
