NFF stops Beach Eagles from international outings

Following their recent disastrous outing at the World Beach Soccer World Cup event in Paraguay, Nigeria Football Federation,(NFF) has stopped the national Beach Soccer team from participating in international competitions.

The NFF top shots resolved unanimously to dissolve the team at their 75th Annual General Assembly in Edo state on Tuesday.

The Beach Eagles scandalously lost 1-10 to Portugal, 5-6 to Oman, and 2-12 to Brazil in group stage of the tournament eventually won by the Portuguese team.

According to the communique signed by Alhaji Abubakar Landa, the NFF board resolved to put on hold Nigeria’s participation in international beach soccer tournaments until such a time that certain benchmarks, most importantly the creation and sustenance of a beach soccer league in the country, are met.

A five-man committee headed by Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi and including Mallam Shehu Dikko, Alh. Ahmed Yusuf ‘Fresh’, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu and Dr. Mohammed Sanusi was put in place to determine the modalities and guidelines, and to encourage States wishing to launch full-steam beach soccer leagues and compete among themselves or internationally.

Only recently, former captain of the national beach soccer team, Isiaka Olawale,  appealed to the NFF to pay their entitlement for attending the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Bahamas.

Olawale, who made four FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup appearances for Nigeria, claimed all efforts to make the country’s football ruling body come to their plight following their group stage exit from the tournament two years ago have proved abortive.
