Nigeria-born youngster close to sealing new Arsenal contract

Arsenal are close to tying highly-rated Nigeria-born youngster Folarin Balogun down to a new contract.

Balogun’s current deal is due to expire in the summer and Arsenal have been in talks with him for several months.

At times it looked like the 19-year-old would be leaving, with clubs in Germany showing a strong interest in him but Arsenal are now close to agreeing a contract with Balogun that will see him commit himself to the club.

The forward has an impressive goal record for Arsenal’s youth sides and he made his debut for the first team this season.

Balogun scored twice in the Europa League group stages and Mikel Arteta stated then that he wanted to keep the Nigeria-born youngster.

Interest from abroad – and the prospect of more game time – had caught Balogun’s eye, but Arsenal will hope the saga is now over as they prepare for a pivotal summer transfer window.
