Nigeria men basketball team D’Tigers lose to Italy exit Olympics

Nigeria men basketball team, D’Tigers finally bid this year Olympics bye early this morning after losing 80-71 to Italy in their last group match.

The Nigerian side made impressive runs leading half way into the tie and looking good to earn at least a win after previously losing two earlier matches against Germany and Australia respectively.

D’Tigers defeat of USA and Argentina in pre-Olympic ties had risen hopes in some quarters that the Nigerian side will fly in Tokyo.

But the final match on Saturday put paid to any dreams of leaving Tokyo with a medal.  Like their male counterparts the women basketball team also lost two previous matches to France and USA respectively and will face Japan in their last group match on Monday.
