Nigeria scorecard: Supersonic Iheanacho still on fire, as Olayinka, Oshoala shine

Kelechi Iheanacho continued to blaze a trail in England with his striking power to score at will for Leicester City and also prepare himself ahead of the national team commitment.

Iheanacho and his teammate, Wilfred Ndidi are due to arrive in Lagos in readiness for the AFCON qualifiers against Republic of Benin and Lesotho.

The former Golden Eaglets hitman is just fresh from a wonderful performance in the English FA Cup outing where he recorded two goals in his club 3-1 win against the dreaded Manchester United to play in the semi-finals.

Iheanacho nick-named ‘The Seniorman’ is one of the most consistent strikers around now after he scored his ninth goal in as many appearances for Leicester City to reach the FA Cup semifinal, while Peter Olayinka and Asisat Oshoala again proved their class at top level.

That brace at the King Power Stadium against United took Iheanacho’s goal tally to seven in his last four matches, including his first-ever Premier League hat-trick against Sheffield United last weekend.

The enterprising midfielder hit the target in the 35th, 61st, and 90th minutes to register the first-ever hat-trick of his career. Kwara now have 30 points from 17 matches same as Kano Pillars, but enjoy a better goals difference than their closest rivals.

Super Falcons skipper, Asisat Oshoala, scored a goal and provided an assist for Barcelona to win 4-0 at Rayo Vallecano and maintain a clear lead at the top of the table in Spain. She scored in the 32nd minute for her team’s second goal before she supplied an assist for the third goal. It was one of the biggest results across Europe this past season. The Benin City-born Atiemwen has enjoyed a super run in the Europa League this season.

Relentless Peter Olayinka also crowned a great run in the Europa League with one of the goals as Slavia Praha eliminated newly crowned Scottish champions Rangers to reach the last-eight of the competition. Slavia Praha now face tournament favourites Arsenal in the quarterfinal next month and who can bet against them not to extend their run in the competition?
