Nigeria to host 13th ECOWAS Wrestling Tourney
Nigeria is set to host the 13th ECOWAS African Wrestling Tournament in Abuja from March 6–8, 2025, as part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the West African regional body.
Organized in collaboration with the National Sports Commission (NSC), the tournament will take place at the Velodrome, Package A, of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, bringing together elite wrestling talents from across West Africa.
NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, expressed excitement over Nigeria hosting the event, assuring that the country would deliver a world-class and hospitable tournament.

The championship is expected to strengthen regional sports ties while further establishing Nigeria as a prime destination for international sporting events.
Historically, the ECOWAS African Wrestling Tournament has been a launching pad for top wrestlers who later represent their nations at major global competitions, including the Olympic Games.
This year’s edition is anticipated to attract scouts and officials from international wrestling organizations, offering participants a platform to secure greater opportunities on the global stage.
