Nigeria vs Sierra Leone: Eagles’ camp in Benin bubbles as 16 stars train

A total of sixteen Super Eagles squad members were on parade in their first workout at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Tuesday evening ahead of the upcoming 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie with Sierra Leone.

At the last count, there are four goalkeepers available for selection with a late call-up to Heartland goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa spotted  in the training session, while Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi, still on his way to Nigeria.

 

Other stars that participated in the first training session under Gernot Rohr are captain Ahmed Musa, Alex Iwobi, William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo.
They were also joined by Kevin Akpoguma, Sebastian Osigwe, Zaidu Sanusi, Tyronne Ebuehi, Oghenekaro Etebo, Maduka Okoye, Chidozie Awaziem, Kelechi Iheanacho and Emmanuel Dennis.
Aside from Akpeyi, two late invitees Abdullahi Shehu and Paul Onuachu didn’t take part in the workout.

 

Meanwhile, the likes of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, West Brom’s Semi Ajayi, SC Paderborn’s Jamilu Collins, Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze and CSKA Moscow’s Chidera Ejuke were the last to hit camp.

 

Interestingly, the first training session was targeted to ensure that the players shake off  fatigue after their long trip from various destinations across Europe.
