NIGERIA’S AFCON SQUAD LIST: NFF vows not to interfere

Super Eagles chief coach Gernot Rohr has been given the right to either pick John Mikel Obi or drop him from Nigeria’s squad list of players for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations holding in Egypt from June 21 to July 19 by his employers, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Disclosing this exclusively to Sportinglife on Friday night, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Melvin Amaju Pinnick stated that: ”If the Coach feels he can add value to the Super Eagles, then we are good with it.”

Pinnick argued that federation will give Rohr and the team all that they need to excel at the AFCON 2019 such that no one will blame the federation if the team falters, which according to Pinnick is ‘unthinkable’.

Pinnick stressed further that the federation will also not be involved in the selection of players for the squad list, insisting that his members won’t put any undue pressure on Rohr not to pick the best players for the country for the AFCON 2019 competition holding in Egypt.

”If we pick players for Rohr and the team flaters (God forbid), will we have the moral justification to ask him what went wrong in Egypt? We will support Rohr like we have always done,” Pinnick said.
