Nike to release Eagles World Cup jersey in June

With 18 days to the FIFA World Cup, America kit manufacturers, Nike, has come out to counter claims by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that the jerseys for the Super Eagles would be released on May 29.

The sportswear giants who will be kitting several national teams going to Russia were forced to clear the air owing to conflicting statements surrounding the release of the jerseys ahead of the World Cup which kicks off on June 14.

”The jersey has not been released yet, it is scheduled to be available in June. Also, there has not been an option to
pre-order the jersey. Stay tuned to our site for updates,” Nike tweeted on May 24.

From the above tweet,  the NFF’s claims that it had ordered for 3 million jerseys at the cost of $85 (about N30,000) appears to have been rubbished.

Recalled that the NFF President Amaju Pinnick with his second vice President, Shehu Dikko were in Holland recently for a meeting with Nike officials to review their partnership agreement.

“The new Super Eagles’ jerseys will be released into the global market, including several NIKE shops across Nigeria, on 29th May 2018, just before the Eagles fly out to London for the friendly match against England. The cost would be $85 for one,” NFF second vice president, Dikko told thenff.com after the meeting.

“The meeting was at the instance of Nike. The company’s representatives at the meeting expressed delight with the performances of the various national teams since they came on board and we both agreed that it was time for a much bigger contract. That would be actualized very soon,” Dikko further told thenff.com.

The Nigerian national team Nike collection includes a travel suit, anthem jacket, training apparel, pre-game jersey, bucket hat, and kits.
