The Nigeria Olympic Committee(NOC), on Friday, 21 June 2024, inaugurated the newly elected National Executive Committee of the Sports Medicine Commission led by Dr. Olajide Joseph Adebola, FAPH.
The inauguration which coincided with the body’s 29th Ordinary Assembly, took place at the Boardroom of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Secretary General of the NOC, Hon. Babatunde Popoola who inaugurated the Commission on behalf of the President of the NOC, Engr. Habu GUMEL who could not make it to Lagos due to some pressing official engagement, advised the Commission to get into action immediately by setting the ball rolling, bearing in mind that the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is almost here.
Adding that the Medical Commission is one of the few important Commissions set up by the NOC to ensure the health and safety of Nigeria Athletes and Officials.
The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, ably represented by Director of Sports incharge of the Lagos Liason office, Nkana Mbora, who Commended the NOC for setting up such an important Commission, gave Kudos to the Medical Commission for the good job they have been doing for Nigerian Athletes.

Using herself as a case study, Mbora who went down memory lane, hinted how the Sports Medicine, assisted in curing her injury with the likes of Dr. Akin Amao in charge when she was still competing as an athlete.
The inauguration which was also online to accommodate those who were not physically present, was also attended by Patrons of Sports Medicine profession like, Dr. Lanre Glover and Dr. Akin Amao while the President of Nigeria Triathlon Federation, Prince Wale Oladunjoye was also there to give his full support to the event.
With the election held online on 13 June 2024, the inaugurated members include,
President- Dr. Olajide Joseph Adebola- 1s Vice president- Dr. Adebukola Oluwarotimi Bojuwoye, Dr. Ummukulthoum Bakare -2nd Vice, Dr Ibrahim Tijjani Bashir-3rd Vice President and the Secretary General,Dr. Francis Obinnaya Udugwu.
Others are Dr. Mariam Mkpo Odu-Assitant Secretary, PT Judith Amaka Enebe-Treasurer, Dr. Kenechukwu John Aneze-Financial Secretary, Dr. Babatunde John Akinbinu-Publicity Secretary, Dr. Sunday Onimisi Salami-Ex-Officio1, Dr. Mazeed Alaba-Ex Official 2 and Prof. Olatunde Makanju, the immediate past President who completes the list as one of the Ex-Officios.
