NPFL bans Lobi Stars media director over match-fixing allegation

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed an indefinite ban on Lobi Stars’ media director, Emmanuel Ujah, barring him from all league-related activities.

The decision was announced on Saturday following Ujah’s controversial comments during an interview, which the NPFL deemed a violation of its Framework and Rules.

According to an official statement, Ujah admitted to making the remarks in error and expressed remorse over the incident.

“Ujah, on his volition, owned up to granting an interview in error and promised a better conduct in future,” the league stated.

The media officer had accused unnamed parties of match-fixing but later confessed to lacking any evidence to support the claim.

“The Lobi Stars media director regrets his statement as he claimed that he was driven by emotion to make the grievous allegation,” the NPFL noted.

In addition to the ban, Ujah is required to issue a written apology and formally retract the allegations.

The NPFL also revealed that while Ujah’s conduct was deemed unacceptable, some of the broader concerns he raised would be jointly investigated by Lobi Stars management and the league body.
