NPFL: Rangers recruitment committee commence work for new season
Nine-man recruitment committee saddled with the task of helping the seven-time Nigeria league champions, Rangers International F.C, acquire quality legs and hands to challenge for honors in the coming 2022/2023 football season has commenced its duties over the weekend.
Headed by the club’s living legend and former senior national team captain and manager who is also the club’s technical director, Chief Christian ‘Chairman’ Chukwu (Mfr) the committee has the technical adviser of the side, coach Abdul Maikaba; director of recruitment, Chief Patrick Nworji; administrative secretary of Rangers, Barrister Ferdinand Ugwuarua; Commissioner for Youth & Sports, Enugu state, Honorable Manfred Nzekwe; and others with the legal officer of the club, Barrister Obinna Obuna acting as the scribe of the committee.

At its inaugural meeting, the chairman of the committee, Chief Christian Chukwu called on members to discharge the responsibilities that the committee is saddled with, dispassionately, stressing that posterity will judge them right at the completion of the task.
“This is a ritual we have come to be known for before the start of any season. We have to do our best to see that we get the best possible quality players available to make the work of the coaches easier towards realizing our set target at the end of the season. I know it won’t be an easy task as we will have to extend our search into the hinterland to see if we can get any ‘Raw Diamond’ that can be polished into a finished product for the team,” stated Chukwu.
He further said, “I urged us to put on our thinking caps to come up with the best result from this exercise. We know that the technical adviser has listed the players he would wish to join us for the coming season and we also know that we have some talents that have been spotted during the ended season hence, we have to work out the best set of players that will join the retained for the new season.”
Speaking during the inaugural meeting, Barrister Ferdinand Ugwuarua, the administrative secretary of the club said, “This exercise is being carried out for the purpose of getting the best materials available to defend the colors of Rangers in the coming 2022/2023 football season and I believe in the caliber of people in the committee to do a good job.”
Recall that Rangers ended the 2021/2022 NPFL season in the 5th position on the twenty-team log and lost out in the Aiteo/Federation cup in the round of 32 to ‘Oriental Rivals’, Heartland after a marathon of penalty kicks and will be looking to enhance the team’s chances in the coming season.
