Team Lagos has emerged the winners of the squash event at the 5th National Youth Games, which ended in Ilorin yesterday.
The team won two gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal.
Lagos State teenager, Dominion Utukpe beat Akwa Ibom’s Daniel Nzei in three straight sets (11-8, 11-9, 11-9) to win the gold medal in the Boy’s singles event.
In the Girls singles event, Favour Utukpe claimed another gold for Lagos after she won 3-2 (11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-8) to Abia State’s Chidinma Orji in the final.
In the Boy’s team event, Akwa Ibom State claimed gold after beating Kwara State in the finals as Kwara beat Team Lagos 3-1 to take home bronze medals.
Also in the Girls team category, Abia State defeated Lagos to claim gold as the Lagosians settled for silver.
Meanwhile, 34 sports including newly-introduced shooting were competed for at the Games.
Head Coach, Sani Wasiu led the team from Lagos to victory. A former national champion, Wasiu have continued to churn out stars in the game.
Akwa Ibom and Abia were joint second with a gold, silver and bronze medal each.
Kwara finished third with, one silver and one bronze medal while Delta and Oyo States also took part in the event.
