Offiong Edem reveals: I want to be among the best 50 players

 

Offiong Edem has set a target of making the list of the top 50 players in the world after she emerged as the

best ranked Nigeria’s Women’s table tennis player according to the latest ITTF World Rankings released on  September 14 this year.

The ping-pong star who revealed that her best moments so far was playing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics occupies the 107th spot in the world ahead of her compatriots Funke Oshonaike (169) and Ajoke Ojomu (208).

Others like Cecilia Akpan (310) and Esther Oribamise (314) were the best five Nigeria’s Women’s players.

Speaking from his base in Madrid, Spain, Edem told SportingLife that she was excited about the progress she has made in the ranking by moving from 119th to 107th position and called for support from the private sector and the Sports Ministry to actualise her dream of breaking into the top 50 players in the world by next year.

“I’m super excited. My goal is to hit the top 50 by next year but I can’t do this alone” Edem who started her professional career in Portugal began in the interview.

“I will need the support of the private sector and also the Sports Ministry to attend more tournaments in order to achieve this target” she added
