Offside Palaver: FIFA to experiment Wenger’s solution.

Arsene Wenger’s controversial proposal to change the offside rule is set to be put to the test by FIFA in China, according to reports.

Wenger has been working as FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development since calling time on his legendary stint as Arsenal manager in 2018.

The Frenchman has been pushing for changes to the offside law for some time, coming up with a revolutionary idea to tweak the rule amid growing frustration with players being penalised by the slightest of margins under the jurisdiction of VAR.

Instead of attackers being offside if any part of their body is ahead of the last defender, Wenger is calling for them to be onside as long as any body part which they can score with is in line

The former Arsenal boss presented his idea to football’s lawmakers, the International Football Association Board, at their AGM on Friday.

And according to The Times, the offside proposal will now be trialled in an unnamed Chinese League with a view to bringing it in worldwide in the future.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: “Our aim as Ifab, and I am speaking under the control of my colleagues from Ifab, is always to see if we can make football more attractive – without changing the nature, obviously, of football.
