Ogu calls it quits with Hapoel after five years

Super Eagles midfielder, John Ogu has decided to call it quits with Hapoel Be’er Sheva after spending five years with the Israeli club with whom he won six titles.

The Nigerian midfielder announced his departure via his Twitter handle on Tuesday saying it would be at the end of the season.

Although he did not mention where he would be heading to, the 30-year-old says the time is now ripe to seek fresh challenges after rejecting offers in the past to remain with Be’er Sheva.

“After 5 years here in Hapoel Be’er Sheva, I have decided I won’t be continuing my career here. All I just want to say is thank you to everyone that made it possible for me to be here. Thank you for the memories and support. And to the fans, I specially say a big thank you,” Ogu posted.

The defensive midfielder who has been an integral part of the club’s success has won three consecutive league titles, two Israeli State Cups and one Toto Cup.

In the 2016/17 season, Ogu who should make the final cut with the Super Eagles for this year’s Africa Nations Cup was named the best player in the Israeli League following his impressive display during the season.
