Okunbo @ 60 Golf: Pros share N5m as tourney ends

 

Professional golfers take their turn Saturday in Benin even as the curtain falls on the Okunbo @ 60 pro-Am golf tourney.

Various categories of golfers, caddies, Amateurs, veterans and Ladies have been on parade on the 9-hole Golf course since the Monday with Saturday’s outing by pros serving as icing on the cake.  Already N5million has been placed on the table for the professionals who have come from across the country to honour Captain Hosa Okunbo whose contributions to the growth of the game and the good of the club continues to receive commendation.

Chief host and younger brother of the celebrant Kingsley Ehi Okunbo, expressed satisfaction with the turnout while predicting that the pros showdown Saturday will live up to expectation.

““We have witnessed competitive golfing actions since Monday and you don’t expect less on Saturday more so with professionals doing what they know how to do best. It promises to live up to expectation and apart from the N5m set aside for the professionals other categories have interesting prizes that will be doled out during presentation and closing ceremony,” said Engr  Okunbo who doubles as CEO of Vision Air Products.

No fewer than 300 golfers took part in the week long championship.

Business Mogul Captain Okunbo,  who turned 60 on January 7 is not only a lover of golf, but also a strong believer in empowering the youths though sports, agriculture and other sectors.

He recently unveiled an agricultural project put at a cost of $750 million with an initial $300 million take-off capital. The farm, located at Odighi and Odiguetue in Ovia North-East Local Government Area has reportedly taken off with an $11 million 20-hectare Green House vegetable farm, with ultimate intention of producing vegetable and allied products not only for local consumption but also for export.
