Olatunji in action for 58 minutes in German Cup flop

Nigerian footballer Ikrami Olatunji was in action for 58 minutes in Germany Cup clash with Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich on Wednesday but could not stop his side from humiliation.

Olatunji and his Bremer SV teammates were overwhelmed in the encounter which saw Bayern up six goals by first half.

. The demolition continued till the the 86th minute of the match and Olatunji and his teammates  who ply their trade in the fifth-tier had no answer whatsoever to the situation. Olatunji was in action for 58 minutes before being substituted.

Julian Nagelsmann rotated his side heavily for the cup clash with Robert Lewandowski, Leon Goretzka and Manuel Neuer all left out of the matchday squad, but his stand-ins were able to do the job and more on Wednesday.

Choupo-Moting opened the floodgates after just eight minutes by crashing a shot in via the crossbar, before former Chelsea youngster Jamal Musiala made it two after 16 minutes.

Bremer defender Jan-Luca Warm only denied Musiala a second by scuffing a clearance into his own net before former Stoke City striker Choupo-Moting scored twice more before the break to complete his hat-trick and move Bayern five goals clear.

Benjamin Eta’s Bremer were given no respite after the half-time interval with substitute Malik Tillman finding the net before Musiala added a second goal.

Leroy Sane made it eight before Bremer’s Udo Nobile was sent off for a challenge on 19-year-old Tillmann.

The Bundesliga champions cranked up the pressure even more with the game winding down, with four goals going in during an eight-minute spell after 80 minutes.

Michael Cuisance, Bouna Sarr and Corentin Tolisso all scoring while Choupo-Moting added a fourth in between those goals.

The result, however, is just shy of Bayern’s largest win via goal margin, with the German champions beating Bavarian side DJK Waldberg in the German Cup first round in 1997.

Bayern’s biggest ever win in any competition was a 23-0 triumph in a pre-season friendly win over FC Rottach Egern in 2019. The German giants beat the same team 20-2 the year before.
