Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi is currently undergoing intensive physical therapy and rehabilitation according to a statement issued by Turkish Süper Lig side Trabzonspor, Sportinglife.ng reports.
Onazi ruptured his Achilles tendon in a Turkish Süper Lig game against Rizespor in December 2018 and will miss Nigeria’s participation at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Yasar Kibar Güven, Trabzonspor’s Chairman, Board of Health, said: “Onazi’s treatment continues at the club’s facilities in Trabzon.
“Our goal was to prepare the Nigerian player for our training camp by the end of the month. However, after surgery, Onazi’s recovery process was delayed because of infection, and it became more important for him to respond to treatment.
“He is undergoing intensive physical therapy and rehabilitation. Both the lounge and the pool sessions are working,” he added.
The former Lazio star was at the Isokinetic rehabilitation gym in Rome to step up his recovery program earlier in the year.
